Tested in the 165 cm length, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL made a great impression! Short and heavy, it feels like a slightly tamed version of Clément Noël’s slalom ski… The first turns are made with a bit of apprehension, fearing the ski might be too aggressive. That’s not the case at all.
You can certainly feel the material underfoot. Since it’s short, the tip’s inertia is greatly reduced. Also worth noting is the beautiful tip design, which is both rounded and square. We expected the ski to engage immediately, to dig into the edge and cut aggressively. But to our surprise, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL, when skiing straight, allows you to relax a bit — the tip doesn’t bite immediately. We were able to slide it sideways and produce drifted/slid directional effects. So, in a pinch, you can move away from its carved arc.
As soon as you engage the knee and move slightly forward, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL smoothly carves a beautiful arc on the edge, almost instinctively. The flex is very well thought out: a mix of firmness to hold extreme angulations on hard snow, combined with the ability to vary turn radii. We even surprised ourselves carving long turns with the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL.
If you know how to manage the directional inputs — which is the type of skier this ski is designed for — the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL becomes a real curve machine. It’s a truly exciting, high-performance toy. The downside? By the time you reach the bottom of the run, your legs will be burning. You need to be active, holding pressure on the edge — it’s not exactly an easy ride… but it’s a real blast on groomed pistes.
It’s important to note that the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL has only 67 millimeters underfoot. This very narrow ski is meant for experienced skiers. You can initiate turns either by sliding/carving or immediately by pressing into the edge.
We didn’t notice any significant vibrations at the tip. It’s a well-designed, well-built ski. While it has a racing spirit, it’s not overly stiff or unruly. Excellent glide. Perhaps a very strong skier could push it too far and deform it, but for average-sized skiers, this is a great ski.
Who is the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL for? A ski instructor or a very skilled skier who wants to focus exclusively on carving? There may be skis that carve nearly as well but offer more versatility.
Reactive but not extreme, it excels in carved turns without locking you into a specific radius. An excellent ski: First Test4outside Award.
