We had already awarded the Elan Primetime 33 ski before trying the 55. There is no doubt that the Elan Primetime 55 is even more refined than its brother.
The Elan Primetime 55 also received a First award because it is a very solid ski underfoot. It is heavy to carry, indicating that Elan’s engineers did not skimp on materials.
On the snow, it is an extremely planted ski, nothing moves. The long edge length ensures excellent grip and superb stability. You immediately feel a bit of inertia in the tip: probably due to the weight of the Elan.
It is somewhat directive; it engages in the turn, gains speed while giving a sense of serenity. We have already emphasized that it is solid underfoot, meaning that a larger skier is not disappointed or limited. You can go very fast with the Elan Primetime 55 without getting scared.
It remains on its rather long radius with a noticeable tail that a good skier can manage perfectly. The ski’s profile is asymmetrical, like that of the Elan Primetime 33. However, the finesse is a bit less pronounced on the edges.
In any case, the flex of the Elan Primetime 55 is very well adjusted. It works really well; we were surprised by its exciting fluidity. It’s a machine for going fast and carving. The big positive point of this Elan Primetime 55 is that it’s not too extreme: it remains at the service of the skier.
Despite a wide tip and a fairly present tail, it feels like you’re on an improved racing ski. However, you still have some width, some buoyancy, which is interesting, especially in all difficult snow conditions where its tip performs well. The tip has a beautiful design, rectangular, with a nice metal tip that doesn’t catch. The design didn’t impress us at first, but it must be acknowledged that this Elan Primetime 55 is well-finished. We note the embedding of the Primetime logo on the ski.
A high-end ski, with a very refined flex. It allows you to go very fast on the slopes, in the hands of skilled skiers who can explore their limits. A high-performing ski but not dominant.
