We got the chance to put Quiksilver’s latest high-end snowboard outfit to the test. At €600 for the jacket and €450 for the pants, this is a premium setup. So, how does this combination of jacket and pants perform out on the mountain?
There’s no doubt that Quiksilver has put a lot of thought into developing this outfit, both in terms of construction and materials. First up is the use of Gore-Tex Performance, which is relatively lightweight. While it’s less durable than Gore-Tex Pro, it’s generally more comfortable thanks to its softer feel around flex points such as the knees and elbows. The result is a Gore-Tex Performance fabric that delivers reliable waterproofing while providing excellent comfort.
Most of the zippers are waterproof, although there are a couple of design choices that could be improved. The underarm vents feature non-waterproof zippers and flaps, as do the fly and hand pockets on the pants.
Another minor drawback of the Quiksilver Highline Pro 3L Gore-Tex jacket is the hood adjustment system. When you pull the elastic cords to tighten the hood, the excess cord can flap into your face in windy conditions.
Overall, we really liked the balance of waterproofing and comfort offered by this outfit, even if a few details could be improved—perhaps in a future version 2.
The fit is loose, and the fabric moves naturally with your body. The outfit is extremely comfortable to wear, never restricting your movements when riding. There’s also plenty of room to layer up with additional insulation depending on the weather conditions.
The snow skirt is well designed, too. It features the now-essential snap button that keeps it secured when you’re not using it. All the zippers run smoothly, and the hood is adjustable at three points and generously sized to fit over a helmet. Its semi-rigid brim helps maintain the hood’s shape, while the collar area feels comfortable against the neck.
The waist can be tightened using two adjustment cords at the front, which we find more practical than having them positioned at the sides, around the hips.
Quiksilver hasn’t designed the jacket and pants to attach to each other, but honestly, who actually uses those systems? They’re rarely the easiest things to set up.
The Quiksilver Highline Pro 3L Gore-Tex pants match the jacket in terms of quality, offering the same effective combination of comfort and waterproofing. All the zippers are waterproof except for the fly.
The fit is roomy without being excessive. The pants sit nicely over snowboard boots and can be adjusted with an elastic drawcord if needed.
The two waist Velcro adjusters provide a strong, secure fit, keeping the pants in place—even when leaning forward. We would, however, have repositioned the belt loop, which sits directly over the Velcro adjustment area and slightly gets in the way when adjusting the waist.
The waistband closes with two snap buttons and a metal hook, making for a very secure fastening that stays firmly in place. Opening it isn’t always easy, though, as Quiksilver has added a particularly strong Velcro closure.
The pockets are huge, extremely practical and easy to access. There are also two large thigh vents to help regulate temperature during intense riding. One thing to note: there’s no mesh backing to keep snow out when the vents are open.
No review of this outfit would be complete without looking at its thermal performance. The setup is lightweight and designed for active riding, providing good insulation without overheating. It strikes a convincing balance between warmth and breathability.
A well-thought-out snowboard outfit built for action. The relaxed fit and carefully selected materials deliver excellent comfort and freedom of movement. It offers reliable waterproofing, along with ventilation options to help regulate body temperature when the pace picks up.
There are a few details that could be refined, but overall, the Quiksilver Highline Pro 3L Gore-Tex jacket and pants make a compelling premium setup for demanding snowboarders.
