This Head Supershape E-Original has a (beautiful) piezoelectric system at the front and rear of the ski. This device is supposed to convert kinetic energy into electronic energy used to absorb vibrations. So, this Head is real science fiction. K2 was one of the first brands to integrate this technology into skis. Head showcases it on this magnificent ski. Is the “piezo” really effective? It’s difficult to say. We can say that this Head has a kind of soft absorption of vibrations, is it thanks to the technology? We have no idea! You would need to disconnect the system on one ski to see what the difference is between the two skis.
Surprisingly, the Head Supershape E-Original, is a very easy ski to use. We were expecting it to be a furious carver, that it would stay stuck to a particular extreme curve (radius of 12.1 meters). It’s not the case the Supershape E-Original is very soft, very pleasant feel on the snow, never violent but really super soft. We even tested it on icy snow and bumpy conditions, and it filters, absorbs, is really pleasant your legs don’t suffer from any vibrations and shaking around from the terrain. Head got us used to more direct skis (to avoid saying tiring skis), so we really appreciate these Supershape E-Original.
Of course, one of its qualities is its ultra-fast turn initiation (carving/slalom design), thanks to its nipped in waist. The other major quality that Head has is that it never traps or gets stuck on a turn, whether you skid or carve the turn. The radius can even be modified big time. That said, carving is only completely perfect on one radius and one type of terrain. If you lengthen the radius carving it works except if the slope gets steeper, if the snow becomes hard and if you reduce the turn by a lot, it then loses grip and its flow. So, you can vary the radius, but you will lose some of its carving prowess if you reduce the turn.
As you can easily put the Head Supershape E-Original flat you never become prisoner to its carve. Our testers all proclaimed about its reassuring attitude.
It lets pass a lot of errors, if you lean back or too far forward, if you don’t have perfected technique in your angles, the Head puts everything in line, especially the tail, so you never get tripped up.
We really appreciated this ski that gives you peace of mind when carving, you can really do as you wish. So, if you aren’t an extreme groomed-slope skier, this ski will be your perfect companion.
The Head Supershape E-Original has high-performance but isn’t aimed at heavy-built skiers who go super-fast because the front of the ski deforms easily when you load it. You can feel the tip bend. So powerful skiers will find its limits pretty quick.
Underfoot you have the feeling there’s a hinge, it’s really cool because it gives a great glide. Super easy turn initiation, but not with an extreme angle as you can feel it loses its grip. That said, the skis we tested had not been perfectly prepared. With classic turns and angle the Head Supershape E-Original behaves perfectly, the very best was carving on blue runs.
The perceived quality is excellent, a beautifully finished product. It has excellent glide, a direct line, it smears a little but remains controllable. It isn’t very heavy and easy to carry.
The Head Supershape E-Original is a great ski that deserves an award for its accessibility. It provides good sensations carving with a choice of radius. A very nice product to enjoy those groomed runs.
