Helly Hansen SOGN SHELL JACKET

The Helly Hansen Sogn Shell Jacket provides both wind protection and insulation, so it’s not simply a shell. Even if the thickness is limited (Primaloft®), the extra warmth is noticeable. You wear it in accordance with the weather, even with just technical underwear, or a mid-layer. There is a removable snow skirt, and once removed, it invites increased ventilation at the end of the season for ski touring excursions.

The mesh-fitted ventilation openings under the arms provide good aeration.

The price is reasonable for a very versatile jacket, which is a well-designed 3-layer jacket. This Helly Hansen Sogn Shell Jacket has a bonus – its adjustable very wide sleeves are equipped with a double line of Velcro®: you can pass your gloves (for powder) very easily under the sleeve and close.

Our testers also greatly appreciated the wide zip sliders that are easy to handle when wearing gloves. The central zip slides easily, it’s a pity that it is covered with a Velcro® flap, you can’t undo the zip with one hand (you have to hold the flap out of the way).

The slightly stretchy fabric ensures extra comfort, it is also nice and supple. This is particularly appreciated around the neck. This area is well protected, and also doesn’t scratch the chin.

The hood has good lateral protection and is adjustable at three points. The surplus elastic, depending on how tight you have it, can hit you in the face if it’s really windy and the hood is done up very tight. The solution involves slipping the extra elastic inside at the back of the neck.

It is very waterproof in a storm, or wet snow.

The jacket is kitted-out with the Recco® Passive Rescue System. There is a large inside pocket to put goggles or gloves.

You obviously have the classic Helly Hansen look, with the HH graphics and a kind of “marine” DNA that you immediately feel in the design.

The Helly Hansen Sogn Shell Jacket is insulated skiing protection, versatile in the sense that it can cope with most weather conditions encountered on the slopes. Supple, comfortable, and remains at a “standard” price for a product of this quality.
