This K2 Mindbender 116C is an excellent freeride ski, generously wide underfoot to be (very) comfortable in all snow conditions and terrains.
It’s a very surprising ski because despite its generous dimensions, it turns very easily when flat. This agility allows it to handle passages through bumps, between trees, and rocks without difficulty.
On hard snow, which is not the intended terrain for its program, as soon as you put it on edge, it clearly understeers. It leads on a very long radius. If you try to pressure the front, on the boot tongue, it doesn’t work. You really need to ski it with pressure on the rear or even squarely on the heel to make it carve. Under these conditions, you regain grip on a nice, fairly fluid curve. The very long radius is difficult to change for a smaller stature. In short, as we understood, this Mindbender 116C is designed to carve fast in powder, in forests.
It has a very consistent flex underfoot suitable for fairly robust skiers. However, you really need to pressure it from the rear in a “new school” style. Once you’ve got it figured out, the ski is super interesting. The tip does a great job absorbing snow clumps and irregularities in the terrain.
Like the K2 Mindbender 106C, the 116C makes a muted sound. We liked the design, but that’s a personal opinion. Very nice finish and durable top sheet. A lightweight ski despite its dimensions.
A very good ski for fast and strong performance off-piste but not limited to that. An excellent product in line with the Mindbender range. We award it a First prize.
