Kästle MX 75

FIRST

Here is the Kästle MX 75, a softer version of the famous MX. There was of course, plenty of room to calm the MX down!

Ok, let’s be honest, straight away this Kästle MX 75 is a particularly efficient ski, well designed, well made, you break out into a smile just from the pleasure of riding it. It won the Test4outside.com FIRST Award without any hesitation.

On the snow, the MX 75 initiates the turn with ease, you find the tip immediately, which chatters a bit on hardpack but it’s fine because you don’t lose any skiability. The Kästle doesn’t really make any noise on hardpack.

It catches the edge very easily and accelerates very quickly. It is impressively fluid, both soft and extremely powerful at the same time. You can feel underfoot that there’s a lot going on, there’s substance that grips unfailingly. We wait impatiently for an icy patch to enjoy because it never loses grip: what a pleasure! If you are centred or even a little forward the Kästle MX 75 grips consistently, it’s brilliant!

If the ski behaves less exact it is because you are really leaning back way too much, the Kästle MX 75 then understeers but because it’s the skier’s error! In any other circumstances it sticks to its guns, you can really give it angle no worries.

There’s a combination of sensations with the Kästle MX 75: you know that the ski is on the rails but it’s also soft and you can feel that you can exit the turn even if the tip is present it isn’t dominant. So, you can have an upright position, let the ski smudge, skid it, return to carving, and put it crossways whenever you like. The Kästle MX 75 isn’t really a toy, but honestly, there is plenty of playtime included. Of course, to really exploit it you need temperament, be on top of it because it quickly gathers speed. But its skiability remains really pleasant.

The other really interesting point is the radius variations. We can lengthen out and reduce too. Once you reach the limit and if you push it too hard it starts doing bits of turns. Even if it is restricted in its radius variations, it is possible to play with the radius. We were really surprised by this aptitude.

We tested the Kästle MX 75 in size 172cm, despite its shortness (perfectly exploitable by someone weighing around 70kg), you can go very, very, very fast! Of course, a longer ski will have even more performance.

It doesn’t particularly enjoy very tight turns; we did notice that the Kästle MX 75 does like lengthening the turns even if its radius is 15.4m (in size 172cm). It is a superb ski for carving on perfectly hard-groomed pistes. It is presented as an all mountain ski; we would better place it as a performance piste ski.

Powerful and reliable, you really feel like nothing can go wrong with this Kästle MX 75. It grips with super-human power without the skier having to try that technically hard.

It’s an aesthetically beautiful ski, very well finished with a bit of carbon around the tip, a metal tail, really carefully executed finishing, stylish design and a magnificent die-cut. What’s Not to love about this ski!

We were expecting a heavier ski in relation to its performances but no! It has fantastic weight to power ratio. The price is high, il’s just off 1000 euros, but our experience with Kästle tells us that the flex won’t deteriorate much with time and the manufacturing is renowned for being super tough.

The Kästle MX 75 won the Test4outside.com FIRST Award. A distinction that was awarded without any hesitation for multiple reasons. Extremely grippy on hardpack, very fluid, enthusiastic and solid underfoot. It may require a bit of skill to ride, but it isn’t an extreme and complicated ski.
