Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent

FIRST

We tested the Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent version without the Gore-Tex membrane, which is available for a few dozen euros more.

We ran in a wide variety of conditions and really appreciated this shoe, which is well suited to technical trail running courses. The first impression comes from the precise foot lockdown: the Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent is built around a stretchy inner bootie construction. The forefoot width, around the metatarsals, is relatively narrow. It is therefore essential to try the shoe on before purchasing.

Slim and precise, this is undeniably a shoe that makes you want to push the pace. Why do we say that? First, the forward rocker geometry naturally encourages you to roll into your stride and accelerate. Then there’s the excellent heel stability—some testers even described the Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent as “firm.” However, that shouldn’t be misunderstood: the foam softens over time with use. Firm and especially very stable laterally, the shoe offers limited cushioning under the metatarsals, allowing for excellent ground contact and very dynamic toe-offs if you run with a forefoot strike.

Another major strength of the Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent is its ultra-aggressive grip in very muddy terrain. The outsole doesn’t clog and remains reassuringly secure on off-camber rock slabs and other sections that are usually tricky to negotiate.

The heel hold is excellent, and the total weight is 270 grams in a size 42.5. The brand has clearly done a good job in keeping the weight down.

Carefully constructed, the shoe features effective mesh, and overall the Merrell Agility Peak 6 Low Vent gives an impression of durability—something that will need to be confirmed over time. There are still one or two visible seams and a slightly “plastic” feel to the material around the lacing area. The rock plate / toe bumper is highly effective, offering protection without making the forefoot overly stiff.

An extremely effective shoe for technical trails, offering undeniable strengths: biting traction and excellent lateral stability at a time when many brands are favoring very (sometimes overly) soft foams. We awarded this Merrell our “First Award.”
