The products are always made in the village of Östnor in Sweden. And for the last 120 years Morakniv is maker to the king of Sweden, we don’t know if he hangs out in the forests , but we do know he has good taste!
We tested the Kansbol model, a compact knife with a short fat blade (hardly longer than 5cm). The handle is also short: 9cm. It is made from anti-slip plastic (polymer rubber) that provides a sure grip. That isn’t the part we liked the most with this knife, the look seems a bit cheap, the blade however is another kettle of fish. It is incredibly sharp, resisting any lateral effort and doesn’t leave the job unfinished.
Made from Stainless Steel giving it toughness and durability. It is also rust resistant (obviously). It stays sharp much longer than a carbon steel blade. Easy to maintain: simply rinse under hot water with a little washing up liquid. Do not put in a dishwasher (not that you’ll find one in the depths of the forests!).
The Morakniv Kansbol is delivered with a rigid protective case (plastique) enabling you to carry it around your neck, on your belt or in your pocket or bag without hurting yourself. The knife slides in easily and blocks shut with a click. A strap with a press stud holds it in place. It is all linked to a tough cord that has an integrated lighter. You can also use it whilst canyoning.
