We found these Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT a bit difficult to grasp. They are indeed rigid, especially at the tail, in the last third section of the skis. If you aren’t a powerful skier, well-versed technically, you quickly lose charge of the tails and the skis pull straight and under turn. You have to know how to control them and go really fast. Generally, you have to really push your weight into them to get a smooth and consistent curve. If the skier weighs 70 kilos, the skis will feel quite dominant. It’s all about body size and technique.
It is quite possible to tame these Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT on blue slopes, but as soon as there is a slope steepens it becomes more complicated, nerve-racking, because the skis accelerate a lot and there is very little variation in the radius. To finish the turn, slow down, close your turns, or to reduce speed, none of this is easy at all: you never stop accelerating on a same radius. After a while, it’s the point of no return.
On the other hand, the Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT are skis that are easy to turn sideways. They are high-performance, riders who enjoy pushing skis, staying on one radius, and who want power underfoot, will certainly be satisfied. So, hefty-built guys have an advantage while others will suffer. Note: there are skis that perform well and are easier in the range, these ones are a little too stiff.
The Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT aren’t heavy underfoot, and the tips don’t vibrate. Another remarkable point is we have this softness under the boot, which is very specific to Nordica skis. We don’t know the type of materials that the brand uses in the structure, but they work: you don’t suffer from the terrain, you don’t feel any vibrations in your knees, you are nicely cushioned as the skis absorb the shocks. They don’t make a hard sound, which is very pleasant.
On slopes that are not very steep, you can have a lot of fun in the big turns and using angulation, but we missed being able to be on the edges and vary the radius without having to use all our effort to do so.
These Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT are easier to steer by staying up front, leaning on the tips. As soon as you lean on your heels, they pull, you lose control, especially on ice.
Moving from edge to edge is quick, it’s even nice to do. The design is sober, fortunately there are a few fluorescent touches to boost the look. The light “army” type gray you either like it or not. Good perceived quality and beautifully finished. They glide magnificently.
The Nordica Spitfire 76 Pro FDT are top-of-the-range skis, dedicated to on-piste riding. You need to be of a solid build and have proven technique to dominate these skis. These Nordica came close to receiving the Test4outside Core Award. To win this prize, they would’ve needed to be just a little more fluid in their behavior.
