The Osprey Kamber 16 ski backpack has the perfect carrying/volume ratio. Once the 16 liters are filled the pack stays in place thanks to the shoulder straps, chest strap, waist belt and especially the flexible yet comfortable back. Forget straight away the idea of carrying skis or a snowboard on this pack. Like most small volume packs it can’t deal with the weight and the movement of a pair of skis, not with minimalist straps and a basic adjustment system.
Otherwise the Osprey Kamber 16 is very well-finished pack, nice to carry because it molds to your back’s movements. The long shape of the pack sits neatly along the spine.
Tough, practical you can store your essential kit including a shovel and probe. We loved the polar fleece lined pocket for protecting your goggles from getting scratched. A key chain, mesh pocket, zipped compartment, emergency whistle, nothing has been forgotten.
We particularly liked the zip cursors that have large loops so easy to use with gloves. Do take care in the forest though as small branches could get caught in these, would be tough to do but it could happen.
Even if it is rare that you take a water bladder skiing, you can with this Osprey Kamber 16 (not delivered with the pack), there is a space especially for it. The tube comes out of the right hand shoulder strap (also insulated). This is an interesting idea because you can easily get dehydrated out skiing being at altitude in the dry mountain air. It also opens up the possibilities of using this pack for fast hiking or hiking.
We also liked the fact that the waist belt adjusts on the left and right sides by the hips, therefore you have less plastic ends near your navel. We didn’t like the fact that the strap was so narrow: not easy to handle and had a tendency to twist.
The cherry on the cake : a small hole at the base of the pack allows water to escape: very practical when you’ve just used the shovel that is soaking wet inside your Osprey Kamber 16.
The Osprey Kamber 16 is a very well-designed, well-made and tough pack. Its small volume is perfect for day trips and for those who don’t want to carry too much. Its limited ski carrying abilities is useful in emergencies. A versatile pack that is very comfortable to carry.
