Quechua MH100 40 L

We tested the 40L MH100 hiking in low mountains, in good weather and with 6 to 7kg inside. The ergonomics of the pack are well designed and comfortable for carrying. The back is well ventilated (Air cooling system) and overall it is comfortable with a semi-flexible frame. The shoulder straps support the weight well and the wide waist belt enables you to distribute the weight on your hips comfortably, it also has a removable pouch, but unfortunately this doesn’t attach very well and moves around constantly.

The chest strap has a fast adjustable sliding system. The pack closes with a large flap pocket, practical but … too big for its single strap attachment. The balance of the pack is uneven whether the pocket is full or empty. There are several accessories, an interior pocket for papers with a clip for keys and two lateral outside pockets that are high and flexible, perfect for a water bottle or for stuffing a lightweight polar fleece into. A front zip at the bottom of the pack enables you to access kit at the bottom of your pack quickly and easily – great idea. There is a thin elastic cord on the front of the pack to be able to stuff a jacket or a helmet underneath – but it’s a bit flimsy for the job it needs to do.

There is only one carrying system for poles on the side of the pack, it’s quite difficult to manipulate and there’s only just enough space for two poles together. The pack comes in one size fitting only, which is complicated for taller and shorter people. The fabric is 100% non-waterproof polyester and there is no protective cover included. So in case of bad weather you will need to protect your stuff inside, or buy a protective waterproof cover. This pack is guaranteed 10-years, and overall it seems reasonably resistant. This is a lightweight back pack that is pleasant to carry. The finishing deserved a little more attention to detail.

It is perfect for day hikes with a light load. If you weigh it down too much you feel it, the carrying design is not adapted to heavy loads. We would’ve preferred a model 20L or 30L which is more suitable to a day hike, and even lighter. It is of course extremely good value for money. We would say pretty difficult to beat for this type of model. A perfect family model.
