This unique ski boot has been highly appreciated. We skied it for several months, so this review also serves as a long-term test.
We awarded it a First Award for its skiability, fit, and its ability to switch modes with the simple action of a buckle.
The Rossignol Vizion 4B Elite 130 LV GW is a distinctive boot equipped with a system that the brand calls “Step-In.” While similar systems have been seen on hiking boots, this Vizion system is very well integrated into the boot. It’s efficient, simple, and doesn’t hinder the flex of the boot. It’s easy to operate, as the buckle is positioned on the side of the boot. It’s much more natural to engage a buckle at the top of the boot than to reach for a lever at the back, as is common on most freeride boots.
For putting on the boots, it’s a joy. Once the Rossignol Vizion 4B Elite 130 LV GW is disengaged, the foot slides in very easily.
If you open the second buckle (the red one in the photo) on the upper cuff, the boot switches into “walk” mode. It’s child’s play. The best part? This system is integrated into a highly performant boot—precise, rigid, and designed for skilled skiers. Unlike some freeride boots that always have something lacking (rigidity, comfort, durability, warmth), the Rossignol Vizion 4B Elite 130 LV GW doesn’t compromise. Of course, it doesn’t target the same market, and it’s not as lightweight as some models, nor does it have the same price tag (it’s actually more affordable, go figure).
The liner is excellent. The comfort of the foam around the tibial ridge speaks for itself! No pressure points, the comfort is present while keeping the foot close to the shell. So, in addition to all the alpine qualities of the boot, you can switch the Rossignol Vizion 4B Elite 130 LV GW to “walk” mode. The cherry on top?
The Gripwalk sole on the Rossignol Vizion 4B Elite 130 LV GW provides excellent traction. The rubber is soft enough to ensure safe walking, another great feature. On almost any surface, there is no doubt about the grip.
The perceived quality is undeniable, it’s very well finished. The ski/walk system is seamlessly integrated and well-designed. A great high-end boot with matching buckles, precise and very easy to operate. The materials don’t feel cheap.
A small detail worth mentioning: the buckle strap features a soft material section around the tibia. This allows the tibia to move more progressively during deep flexions, adding smoothness to the fit.
Another nice touch: the back of the liner is held in place by a small elastic band, so the liner stays perfectly in position (just remember to remove it when you want to take the liner out). The liner is very well designed; it doesn’t crease in the footbed area. The boot is quite warm, and it’s the only one in this test where we didn’t feel cold. Everything is well thought out, finished, and fluid in terms of design.
We really liked this precise boot with a true 130 flex. It’s perfect for ski instructors, for example, as its skiability is excellent, and it’s also easy to walk in. Ultra-easy to put on. Award First Test4outside. Excellent work by the engineers.
Last: 98 millimeters.
