This Smith Code helmet immediately gives you a freestyler look. With the Smith Squad goggles, it is even better, pure style.
The Code is a good lightweight helmet with a minimalist look. No b******t, just results.
Nice to wear thanks to the comfy foam and obviously very light. We liked the fact it didn’t have a visor: sitting your goggles on top of the helmet is much easier and more stable.
Ventilation is high performance; 6 ventilation points in all, 4 at the front and 2 at the back, and they do not create noise. You can’t close the ventilation. The chin strap is comfortable and it has a classic adjustment system. We aren’t fans of the Fidlock magnet for closing. Opening it is easy but closing it with gloves on is a pain. On an MTB helmet this system works well, you wear thinner gloves…
The area around the ears is soft and cozy, the downside is that you can’t hear very well, but you are very warm!
The goggles’ strap sits neatly at the back and doesn’t move: the plastic piece is fairly basic but extremely efficient. Why? Because it has two advantages; it is supple and bends away from the helmet easily to enable you to put the strap in place, and the opening is at the top so when you slide the goggles over the helmet the strap falls naturally into place into this plastic attachment. No need to pull it with all your might to block it as you do with most helmets.
As far as protection goes, its Aerocore construction, which is a combination of EPS foam and Koroyd (honeycomb) that you have on all Smith helmets (including MTB), enables them to outdo the international standards in protective materials (according to Smith).
