At first glance, the quality lenses are highly effective against wind, speed, and projections.
The goal of these Rudy Project Astral Sphere sunglasses is to offer shock-resistant optics with an efficient field of vision, adapting to a wide range of lighting conditions.
From the start, we were pleasantly surprised by the lightness of the whole setup. Even during long endurance rides, the Rudy Project Astral Sphere sunglasses are barely noticeable.
The frame attaches laterally to the top of the outer edge of the lens without any surrounding frame. It is made from bioplastic. The temples are slightly ventilated, and their rear contact area with the head is enhanced with a soft, grippy rubber insert. This prevents slipping and increases comfort.
The nose bridge, partly made from this material, adapts to all nose widths by pinching or expanding.
The lens tested on this Rudy Project Astral Sphere is called Impact X. It is advertised as unbreakable. During our practices and long tests, we noticed no weaknesses.
The lens covers the face perfectly, both at the eyes and along the sides.
Perfectly spherical, it extends laterally at the temples with two small cuts that extend the coverage without interfering with the attachment of the temples above. This makes the design less bulky and more sleek.
The vision is nearly perfect, with no distortion noted regardless of the direction of gaze. Our testers on bikes appreciated the very smooth photochromic transition. The lens adapts seamlessly to changes in light.
Our paragliding tester also noticed the almost perfect air flow insulation, regardless of flight speed. He observed excellent contrast maintenance, especially with the purple-tinted Impact X lens used on these Rudy Project Astral Spheresunglasses.
Even in cold environments, our eyes never watered. And during intense efforts, the moisture between the face and lens is efficiently evacuated. There is no rim around the lens to trap it.
For prescription eyewear users, an adapter suitable for vision correction can be clipped onto these sunglasses, allowing you to enjoy their features while maintaining optimal clarity.
In summary, these Rudy Project Astral Sphere with Impact X lenses impressed all testers in various outdoor sports, particularly those involving high-speed movement. They offer multiple advantages: lightness, comfort, efficiency, and performance. We’re still looking for something to criticize… perhaps the design feels a bit dated?
