It’s always a little event to test a Canada Goose jacket because we know that we will benefit from high quality down, that it’s top-of-the-range. The Canada Goose Crofton with a listed price of 595 euros is right on target.
Beyond “urban” use, this jacket is recommended for skiing, under a protective jacket to ensure thermal insulation or possibly on its own (take care if you carry skis on your shoulder not to tear it).
The Canada Goose Crofton’s main characteristic is the quality of its North American down, which has a 750 fill factor, which puts it in the upper range of quality. We had also tested the excellent Canada Goose Hybridge Perren jacket with an even higher loft: 800.
The Canada Goose Crofton’s down therefore ensures a very high fluffiness, and super cozy comfort. Only down is used, the feathers which usually pierce jackets, extract themselves and come to be flattened on the lower layer, are absent from the Crofton.
You enjoy a gentle heat. Thermal insulation is initially intended for temperatures of five to minus five degrees. We all know the negative sides of down: sensitivity to humidity, very long drying time. The recycled nylon fabric is water-repellent and quite windproof, it is not waterproof, it is better to wear a protective layer for tougher weather conditions.
We really appreciated its supple feel, comfort and lightness of the Canada Goose Crofton which is listed as 390g in size M, and 420g with straps.
The central zip is nice and big and easy to handle even if, occasionally, the small ribbon on the slider can hinder the zip going up. The collar height is ideal, it doesn’t stop you from closing a protective jacket and doesn’t create uncomfortable extra thickness.
The cuffs are well designed with a stretchy band which adds flexibility in this area (respects movements) and so you can wear big GPS watches.
The two thin-fleece-lined hand pockets are very comfortable. They have a big volume. Inside, are two large, unclosed pockets and one that is used to compact the jacket for transport. The latter closes with an elastic.
The Canada Goose Crofton is equipped with a large elastic strap, like suspenders, which allows the jacket to be worn without pulling on the sleeves. We may not be super fans of this system, this elastic does make it easier to wear the jacket once compacted: the case (in fact, the third inside pocket of the Canada Goose Crofton) has attachment rings and can be worn over the shoulder. These same rings can also be used with carabiners to hang the jacket on a backpack, for example.
The only downside that we can point out with this Canada Goose Crofton is the absence of Pertex Quantum, for example, which could reassure against the risk of ripping.
The Canada Goose Crofton Jacket is excellent insulation for skiing, under a protective layer or solo mode for urban style. As always with the Canadian manufacturer, the quality of the down used is indisputable. A top-of-the-range product for very efficient thermal insulation.
