In the series of fairly lightweight touring skis, here is the Salomon MTN 84 Pure, featuring a design that reveals a bit of wood through transparency at the front and back of the ski. The top sheet has a slightly textured finish with a very finely ribbed appearance.
The Salomon MTN 84 Pure is well-suited for touring. Its width underfoot allows it to handle a variety of terrains without venturing into deep snow where it struggles to perform.
This ski is accessible, easy to handle, and offers good grip. Its weight is very appealing as the Salomon MTN 84 Pure is light on the feet, making it very effective for ascents. When it comes to edge engagement, whether entering a turn, pivoting, or steering, there are no issues. It handles front-to-back imbalances very well and forgives mistakes. It is very satisfying as it allows for angulation and variation of turn radius whether on the front or back foot.
The Salomon MTN 84 Pure performs well on medium curves and in tight turns. The rocker profile is modest, unlike some highly rockered skis. As a result, there is good turn control, stability, and the ability to ski at relatively high speeds without any trouble, all while weighing in at 1280 grams.
It suits all touring skiers capable of navigating various types of terrain. It is a comfortable ski that does not overreact to terrain irregularities. Performance-wise, it delivers. To make it even more playful, you can choose to ski it at your true size rather than 5 to 10 centimeters above. There are no significant weaknesses to note for this lightweight touring/freeride ski.
