Salomon Pulsar

After the Salomon Pulsar models with numbers or the S/Lab label, here comes the Salomon Pulsar — plain and simple.

This shoe clearly carries the DNA of the Pulsar range born from competition. We liked this lightweight shoe (280 grams in size 42 2/3 on our scale), slim and precise, fitting naturally with no sense of inertia. So, should it be considered a racing shoe? Within the Salomon lineup, other models are better suited for pure competition. However, for runners looking for a trail running shoe for training — and even lining up at the start of a race (or two) without podium ambitions — the Salomon Pulsar makes a lot of sense.

Not particularly generous in terms of energy return, the Salomon Pulsar is best suited for short to medium distances on non-technical terrain. Think rolling trails where you can pick up the pace and land on the forefoot for better efficiency. That said, don’t be mistaken: while the forefoot feels rather firm, the heel is well cushioned. We really appreciated this cushioning — present but not excessive. Above all, the Salomon Pulsar remains laterally stable. The forward rocker could be more pronounced to better propel the stride.

While the outsole and its 4 mm lugs never clog in mud, grip — especially on rocky slabs — is not among the best in its class. The rubber compound is relatively firm.

The fit is precise, with a strong foot lockdown and very little comfort padding. The Salomon Pulsar also dries quickly.

We liked the effective toe bumper, the quicklace system, and the practical lace pocket to store excess lace. Build quality is excellent, and the mesh is highly breathable. A Salomon Pulsar that can easily be worn on a daily basis.

A pleasant trail running shoe for non-technical terrain. Stable and lightweight, it is well suited for short to medium distances on rolling profiles.
