This shoe is for pronators looking for firm support under the foot arch to avoid it squashing down on the inner edge.
We ran with this Saucony Guide 14 on splits and long distances.
You do feel the solid support on the inside of the foot. Flat foot strike and energy transmission doesn’t distort the shoe. There is firm contact in this area. You very quickly get used to this superb stability and no lateral roll.
There is cushioning without it being excessive, some said that there wasn’t much at all. If you have a distinguished heel strike you can feel the foam give way. But in most cases the shoe provides “soft” support, without a major loss of energy. They are pleasant to run in, nice and fluid. We ran midfoot and forefoot and they are happy in both, even if they aren’t really designed for forefoot runners.
Like the Asics Gel-Cumulus 23, these shoes are focused on comfort more than performance, even if you can go far. The cushioning, support structure, foam padding all add weight and so the shoe weighs in at 315g in size 43, practically the same weight as the Asics.
Comfort is the second characteristic of this Saucony Guide 14.
The heel envelopment is cozy and the toe box nice and roomy and well ventilated. The lacing system is quick, and the round/oval laces are slightly stretchy, they absorb slight tensions when you’re running. Although you lose a little precision if you don’t adjust it enough. We didn’t need to do a double knot.
The Saucony Guide 14 is made carefully, attention to detail and assemblies and high-quality materials. There are very few seams.
They make a little characteristic noise on hard surfaces that isn’t at all annoying.
The 8mm drop feels like it’s more when you’re running.
The Saucony Guide 14 is a good, comfortable road shoe for pronator runners. Very stable, it has moderate but effective cushioning.
