The Scott Element Pro Mips is a helmet aimed at freeride and backcountry skiing. We weighed it at 460 grams on our scale in size M. Given these numbers, it can definitely be considered lightweight.
Two observations stand out right away regarding the Scott Element Pro Mips. First, pay close attention to sizing when purchasing: it runs small, particularly around the base of the skull. The second point concerns minor creaking noises inside the helmet. Do they originate from the integrated Mips technology or from the lining’s Velcro pads?
Well-finished, using materials that enhance its perceived quality, the Scott Element Pro Mips features a matte finish and a very practical top vent. We really like the silver Scott logo. A standout feature of the Scott Element Pro Mips? An integrated Recco reflector. Highly effective, provided your helmet is properly tightened so it doesn’t get torn off in an avalanche…
The earpads are warm, rather thick, and slightly muffle ambient sound. The chinstrap is comfortable, and the magnetic buckle is smooth and easy to handle.
The fit adjustment dial at the back of the head lacks the buttery smoothness of a BOA System dial, but let’s say it gets the job done.
A lightweight helmet built for freeride and backcountry use, equipped with both Mips and Recco technologies. Despite a few minor creaking noises, it remains comfortable to wear, all offered at a reasonable price point.
