The Oakley MOD 1 Mips helmet is lightweight at only 430 g in size M, comparable with the Smith Code for example that weighs 470g, also using the Mips technology.
The Oakley MOD 1 Mips is so light you almost forget you’re wearing it, even if you notice it more with goggles. Its other major brownie point concerns its audio quality that practically totally conserved, which is important for safety reasons.
This helmet was quite warm, the ventilation fulfils part of the mission when it’s cold but as soon as the sun comes out, temperatures rise too. That said the test model was black.
The classic magnetic chinstrap fastening is very performant and practical. It opens easily with gloves on. Closing it is more difficult with thick gloves on if you aren’t used to it, but otherwise pretty easy.
The helmet is very well designed without any obstruction when leaning your head forward or twisting from side to side.
The inside lining is removable for washing. The helmet fits extremely well with limited volume at the back of the head above the neck.
The Oakley MOD 1 Mips helmet is fitted with a BOA disc for adjustment, performant and precise. Adjustment is as soft as usual, the release makes a louder noise, but not disturbing.
Goggles sit comfortably in place and don’t move, and also if you aren’t wearing them they can sit on the edge of the Oakley MOD 1 Mips.
The Oakley MOD 1 Mips is lightweight, well balanced and relatively comfortable. Kitted with Mips and BOA technology, it is good in terms of safety and practicality. Any downsides? It can get a bit hot at times.
