The brand Topeak (Prepare to ride!) has a sense of humor for naming its bike pump: JoeBlow. And it sure is excellent value for money! We searched high and low (excuse the pun…) to find something wrong with it, and quite frankly all we could find was the little yellow curser; that you can’t always move where you want to be sure that the tire is inflated to the desired pressure: it slides a bit too easily – but we’re really splitting hairs!
For the rest there is absolutely nothing to complain about. The product is born from thought and careful construction, using quality materials and assembly parts. The body of the pump is made from stainless steel, as well as the well-proportioned foot to ensure good hold during inflating.
The pump is very powerful with a minimum of 11 bars (160PSI). The silicone grip handle ensures a good and comfortable handhold. But the two parts that we most appreciated were the dial and the pump valve end.
The dial is very clear, well designed and graduated with both bars and PSI. The yellow needle is very visible. A small yellow curser also indicates precisely the inflation value; you just need to move it to the desired number.
The inflating valve is easy to use; it fits easily onto the two standard valve sizes. Its yellow lever is metallic and not plastic like is often the case, and therefore much tougher. Once inflating is finished the lever lowers quickly and you don’t get the impression that the tire loses much air.
The links between the tube and the valve, and the tube and the base of the pump are protected so that the rubber doesn’t fold and create a crease and crack over time. The tube can of course be clipped to the length of the body of the pump, nothing new, but why change a good idea.
The two extra valve ends for inflating balloons and sleeping mattresses can be kept clipped to the places situated near the dial; very practical.
This is a well-designed, reliable, tough and nice looking product that is also good value for money.
