The Völkl Deacon 72 thrilled us on the snow. It’s a ski with rocker at the front and back to aid in pivoting. However, there’s a bit of inertia and a rather heavy weight. It grips the snow tightly with a long edge length.
This Völkl Deacon 72 is very pleasant, it offers sophisticated performance akin to another excellent ski in the range, the Völkl GS. These two products both receive the First award.
With the Völkl Deacon 72, we notice this soft touch on the snow, this filtration, and above all, the fluidity of the flex, perfect for skiers weighing 70/75 kg.
It’s not a demanding ski, nor is it complicated to turn; it’s (very) enjoyable. A playful ski focused on short radii that we liked a lot. You can vary the radii without really breaking a sweat. The Völkl Deacon 72 has great grip, capable of transitioning smoothly between sliding and carving; it takes a bit of time to get it on edge. Given its radius, it’s very comfortable in short turns, but it can also elongate. Note the rubber heel.
Its limitation? For big riders who go very fast down the slope. The tip vibrates a bit, but you really have to push it hard to fault it.
A very good ski for progressing without being trapped by a very consistent tail. A ski very well finished with a beautiful base and high-level glide. A very good product for teaching. Easy access, fluidity, and great grip. A well-deserved First award.
