They have less Titanal and so these skis are softer to handle in comparison to their big brother. We liked them better than the other top-of-the-range model. Because we aren’t going to be too aggressive with them we don’t expect sparkling results, but when you’re on the edges they carve well, easily and fluidly.
On steep slopes, compact hard snow, their behavior deteriorates. If you ski the Elan Amphibio 16 Ti ‘inside’ without forcing them too much they are great for average skiers on non-technical slopes. They are also better for lightweight skiers, otherwise you have a tendency to bend them too much, especially at the front, and you lose the bite.
The Elan Amphibio 16 Ti are very easy in initiating turns and they naturally find heel pressure and at the point where you move the skis bite. But, if you come across an icy stretch you lose the grip. Idem if you put too much pressure on the front, the tips go out of shape and they lose grip.
All turns are easy in an upright position, carving, skidding turns, short turns.
The Elan Amphibio 16 Ti feel light at the front, it’s interesting, you don’t get tired. These skis are asymmetric so be careful! Left and right skis! We did try them the other way around – they don’t work…
They initiate the turn quickly thanks to their shape but then you feel the skis bend a lot without being closed into the turn.
They glide well. Straight-lining they chatter a bit up front, in mounds of snow they waggle a bit and lose a little of their superbness. They are beautifully finished, stunning tips, top sheet, really magnificent object.
