Head Nexo LYT

We had the privilege of testing the all-new and eagerly awaited Head alpine ski boot 2018/2019.

The Nexo LYT uses a material called Graphène, announced as being 30% lighter than a usual material. In fact, when you pick it up – it is surprisingly light. It resembles more of a freeride boot. And here’s the proof on the scales: 1620g for size 27,5! A fantastic performance for a boot with a 130 flex targeted at expert piste skiers.

We were dying to try these out on the snow. The other surprising note was the ease of slipping them on, the shell opens easily. It’s been a long time since we found a boot that was so easy to get on. But the surprises don’t stop there, the liner is incredibly soft and squidgy. Your foot is enveloped with remarkable comfort especially around the heel. It is made out of Primaloft® and so the boot is very warm and enables you to go freeriding without a care in the world, even when the mercury drops.

The Nexo LYT closes at the blink of an eye. The four micrometric buckles are powerful and hold the foot securely.

Once on the snow, in the action, you really appreciate the comfort and the lightness of the boot, which means you don’t waste energy and it’s very reactive when positioning the ski. At average speed the foothold is precise with satisfactory rigidity. When the speed increases and the pressure becomes more accentuated we noticed that the 130 flex behaves more like a 120. On short pressure, at full speed, the shell becomes oval. Make sure you tighten the strap well and position it correctly because it has a tendency to slip. You lose some precision and heavy built skiers will probably be a little disappointed. For those who don’t tend to ski at very high speeds the Nexo LYT is extremely pleasant.

Don’t tighten the buckles too tight because the shell rapidly squishes down, use the correct spacing, and be careful not to create pressure points. Also, if you tighten them down too much the front of the boot loses waterproofness.

Lateral transfers are rapid, perfect.

The sole has been well-designed because you can walk comfortably and it has a good grip.

The Nexo LYT looks classy, with its matt aspect, the techno upper, lightweight strap, straps to ease putting them on and snug foot-form. The molding joints we weren’t great fans of and the buckles look a tiny bit cheap.

The Néo LYT is a surprising boot and skis at a constant speed, a really pleasurable ride. At very high speeds its limits in rigidity can be exposed by heavy built skiers. But the energy saving qualities must also be considered.
