Kästle ZX92

Undeniably, the Kästle ZX92 has substance underfoot, yet it remains highly maneuverable. It’s equipped with the Kästle tip system, which reduces weight and inertia. All pivots are executed effortlessly; the ski’s front end doesn’t disrupt the maneuver. However, the Kästle ZX92 clearly tends to oversteer, likely due to the substantial rocker on the front, coupled with the sidecut.

Gliding and skidding maneuvers on hard snow are very easy. Even though the Kästle ZX92 is a “solid” ski, it remains accessible. The front rocker has a drawback: the ski vibrates significantly on hard snow, creating a lot of noise. Stability decreases as speed increases. The “flap” on the front end is very noticeable. It’s best to ski the Kästle ZX92 with a slightly rearward stance. The trick to avoid the “flap”? Shift weight forward to press down that movable tip. It’s better to pilot it with heel pressure; the Kästle ZX92 smoothly enters the turn, holding the edge on its rather long radius. The effect is pleasant, powerful, with no hesitation: it grips, and one discovers a good, sound ski.

The highly energized tail doesn’t necessarily make small turns easier. For larger skiers, the Kästle ZX92 allows for high speeds and powerful carving.

The Kästle ZX92 didn’t impress us with its carving quality: it’s not very smooth due to vibrations on the front end. However, it performs very well in powder. It stays on top and pivots effortlessly. It allows for making small turns and also extending the curve. Very enjoyable in chopped snow. The front of the ski is easily controlled, with no additional inertia. Thus, there’s no need for strong thighs.

Very beautiful diecut and topsheet.

Overall, it’s a true all-terrain ski, very enjoyable, although not necessarily with an incisive curve quality and ultra stability at very high speeds.
