Despite its high-level performance, this Arc’Teryx Sabre Insulated jacket narrowly misses out on the First award. We’re nitpicking a bit, but its hood lacks slightly in volume to be entirely relevant when wearing a helmet, especially during head rotations. We allow ourselves to be demanding given the price of the jacket in question: 800 euros. Be aware, this Arc’Teryx Sabre Insulated is both a protective and insulated jacket.
For the rest, the Arc’Teryx Sabre Insulated jacket does everything right. We appreciated its thermal insulation, comfort, and technical features. Let’s start with the essentials, its synthetic Coreloft insulation (100% recycled) which is moisture-resistant, compressible, and dries very quickly after washing. It’s a warm yet thin jacket that allows for full range of motion, very pleasant to wear. We tested it in very cold conditions, in December and January, on the slopes, and it proved to be highly effective. We also tested it under snowfall, and the waterproofness of the Gore-Tex Performance membrane did not fail. We have not tested it in the rain.
We also appreciated the durability of the Arc’Teryx Sabre Insulated jacket, slightly less than Gore-Tex Pro but more than sufficient for intensive use. Another strong point is the waterproof zippers which slide very smoothly, most of the time, with just one hand.
The collar of the Arc’Teryx Sabre Insulated jacket rises to the perfect height, it’s comfortable, flexible, yet stays in place to ensure excellent protection. The volume of the forearms is perfect, allowing for layering underneath the jacket without feeling restricted. The Velcro cuffs are powerful.
The powder skirt is compatible with Arc’Teryx pants. The excess drawcord from the waist is directed upwards inside the jacket, in line with current manufacturing standards.
The finishing leaves no room for criticism: it’s perfect. Integrated Recco reflector.
A highly performing protective and insulated jacket. Comfortable, warm, very well-cut: a must-have for (severe) cold periods.
