ASICS GEL-NOOSA TRI 12

The Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 12 is, as its name suggests, dedicated to triathlon.

They have several qualities and good ideas. The shoes come with two pairs of laces. One flat, traditional pair and another, in Xtenex. We basically tested the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 12 with this latest version. Of course, in the optics of running a Sprint triathlon or an M format, the how fast you put your shoes on can be an asset if you are aiming to win.

On paper, it should be done in no time at all. In fact, it does require preparation. First you must carefully adjust your elastic laces. Once the length and therefore the pressure is determined, you have to practice putting your foot into the shoe and above all pulling on the tongue, thanks to the large hole provided at the top. But be careful when pulling the tab, it tends to fold on each side, so you have to run a finger on either side to lay it down flat. If you haven’t practiced beforehand, you lose the benefit of this supposedly time-saving technology.

But once you have the knack, they are really fast to get on. The small tab at the top of the heel is of little use as it is difficult to grip with your fingers, especially in the heat of the moment: during the bike/marathon transition.

Having good foothold, especially on top, is the basic function. With this type of laces we always tend to overtighten them. The envelopment is snug and smooth. There’s a certain flexibility (also in torsion) which does not lead to any problems with road running, and triathlons are usually on the road. Worn with the flat lace option, the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 12 gain in precision.

The other good thing about the Asics is its sole. No doubt, the Japanese brand knows how to do it. The stride is smooth, with just the right amount of cushioning. The cushioning is well-distributed, the support never gives way. We wondered about what the best distance is you can run with the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 12. Our opinion is that up to a half Iron Man is fine. For a full Iron Man, we prefer a shoe that is a little firmer in its overall support.

The front of the shoe has very breathable mesh (it feels cool on the instep), which is very pleasant. Another advantage is that the Asics does not soak up water (but sand and dust do creep in). Lightweight at 242g in 42.5. We must compare them to a Hoka One One Mach 3 for example: 232 grams for 42 2/3.

the Asics are well-finished, with a colorful look and quality materials. They are size slightly bigger than average.

The Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 12 are good shoes for triathlon distances up to a half Iron Man. With their Xtenex laces, they become a formidable weapon because they are very fast to put on.
