This Atomic Maverick 95 Ti is very easy to use and very light. That was the first impressions. A ski that could be described as “fickle” to begin with because it has short tail that can take you by surprise. We did wonder how it would behave if we leaned a little too far backwards, it also has a flexible front.
And yet in use you discover a very versatile ski and with apparent ease remains a high-performance ski. It’s surprising and even unsettling to see how broad its spectrum of use is. It can be used by a skier with a very low technical level who flat pivots it, who’ll love its instantaneous entry into turns (pintail), who will appreciate its behaviour in all types of snow and in moguls where it is exceptional because it tracks, it doesn’t chatter and absorbs thanks to its excellent tip-lift.
A very good skier will enjoy the pressure transfer underfoot, good fluid turns provided that it’s skied with centre positioning or even using the tail with a little bit of work. You can carve hard with this Atomic Maverick 95 Ti on soft snow. It accelerates, it allows you to vary the turn radius even if it is easier to lengthen them than to reduce them.
If you lean too far in front, you distort the front of the ski. At high speeds it loses its superbness, the tip chatters but there is a way to go very fast with it if you pay attention. Steep turns are less easy to maintain, if you load it too much it slips a little, you have to be more refined, not push it too much on sharp angles.
We really liked it off-piste skiing in difficult snow because it’s very easy, the turn is initiated immediately. The ski is so lightweight there’s no inertia in the tip. It allows you to react very quickly and to do short turns.
The base has a Japanese style print. The Atomic Maverick 95 Ti top sheet doesn’t deteriorate too much, especially the front.
A ski with a soft discreet classic appearance that offers a lot if you know how to position yourself and push it. It is suitable for a wide range of skiers, except for heavier built skiers. The Atomic Maverick 95 Ti bridges the gap between ease and versatility/performance.
