You are always sceptic when trying new kit that is a bit out of the ordinary, but sometimes you can have a nice surprise…. And being a tester is what that is all about – trying new things!
The DAEMON is a ski with reversed curves, so it is as if the fore and aft rockers meet each other starting from the center of the ski.
On test the first turns in powder the skis were sitting happily on top of the snow. The stability we felt with the skis lifting progressively out was very noticeable, a lovely glide. Then you immediately want to go faster. Pivoting is also disarming by its sheer ease.
You would have thought that the long rear rocker would weaken the balance but it doesn’t, even when you do longer turns and up the speed the Daemon was faultless.
On bumpy ground and choppy snow the cushioning was appropriate and pivoting still as easy. Deep cut carving turns through an irregular snow blanket isn’t this type of ski’s target.
On hard snow, pivoting remains a breeze.
To obtain a carving turn you just need to add a lot of angulation. Then the magic is released, and the ski marries the snow. So, you can have nice grippy turns, but it’s difficult to vary their radius.
At high speeds the skidding turns require precision and finesse in fore and aft balance. We couldn’t test it on steep slopes.
At any rate, this product is still interesting to ski. The original design has been mastered. Many skiers would enjoy these.
