DynastarM-Vertical 88

Test of the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 in the 172 cm length. A nicely finished ski featuring a steel edge that extends fairly high up the tip, alongside dedicated skin notch cutouts.

While somewhat heavy on the scales, it stays true to the classic touring ski blueprint: moderate sidecut shaping and straight-tracking efficiency on the uphill skin track. An 88 mm waist width hits the sweet spot for reliable hold on side-hill traverses without dragging excessive snow.

The Dynastar M-Vertical 88 is an all-around performer. Although not entirely in its element in deep powder, it proves resourceful, backed by an effective tip rise that floats smoothly over small crud piles. It isn’t necessarily built for stacking massive vertical gains given its noticeable weight underfoot. However, for those eyeing moderate ascents to access steep lines or tight couleurs for pure fun, the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 is spot-on.

It offers immense peace of mind thanks to dependable edge grip—a crucial trait when navigating above no-fall zones like rock bands. Its torsional rigidity is exceptionally well calibrated. A dependable, well-behaved ski with no erratic oversteering or understeering tendencies, it pivots willingly without any unpleasant surprises and responds instantly to foot inputs. While we’ve tested skis with slightly stronger edge bite, it remains thoroughly pleasant to drive.

Drifting and sluff-management turns are effortless to initiate, and the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 can easily stretch out its turn radius when asked. It keeps chatter to a minimum, with a forebody that stays well glued to the snow surface. Crucially, it tracks reliably even under the load of a heavy pack and feels right at home snapping off quick wedeln turns.

A traditional touring ski that relies on proven engineering formulas. You simply can’t go wrong purchasing this ski within the classic touring category—a clean, effective, and highly dependable product.
