Excellent skis that win the FIRST Award. Despite very difficult conditions during the tests, on very deteriorated slopes with multiple changes in the snow conditions on and off-piste we nevertheless skied with the Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO rather skeptically. Mistake. These conditions are just what these skis enjoy the most.
Off-piste the skis lifted correctly thanks to their relative good width (hardly more than some Alpine skis with a 80mm waist, like the Nordica Spitfire) and especially their tip lift. They pivot pretty well. The terrain just outside the run markers is not the area that the Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO like the most but they can be playful here.
These fairly heavy skis (when you carry them on your shoulder) that you don’t feel once skiing, have a slight ridge near the edge so that you can grip them easily when carrying them on your shoulder with gloves on, because the top sheet is slippery.
The Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO are enthusiastic on groomed slopes because they are wide and stable and can plough through sloppy spring snow. They absorb all types of mounds of snow, really excellent end of season skis.
They initiate turns with ease and pivot really well, skidding a bit. You catch the edges immediately and you can have plenty of fun with them, even on longer sizes: we tested the 185cm. They are fluid and a real pleasure in the turns. You can change the radius by changing foot pressure and positioning yourself further forward or back. The Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO react to your direction. The flex is consistent and doesn’t allow them to block.
Obviously on very hard snow these skis do not grip like Giant or Slalom skis. Generally they do grip but if you force them too much the Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO will submit. But the Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO do love speed. Extra-fast the tips remain flat to the snow, they are effective even if they don’t have a very classy design, a bit old school.
They don’t vibrate or flail around at top speed in a straight line. You always feel confident and reassured on these Dynastar. We loved the tail that worked well and allowed lighter weight skiers to avoid any problems.
Skiing upright and relaxed are all easy. Short skidding turn sequences are done without any problems. Carving short turns is less easy to obtain, that’s not their high point.
Excellent All Mountain skis, 4X4, as their name indicates. The Dynastar Speed Zone 4X4 82 PRO install confidence in all areas, with a penchant on groomed slopes.
