The Head Supershape e-Rally does the job but without great enthusiasm. It is present underfoot even if merely passively. It doesn’t return much energy, if you push it, it responds but without much personality.
However its very positive point is that it doesn’t prevent your movements in any way. The Head Supershape e-Rally doesn’t incite anything but you don’t get taken by surprise by its tail either. Carving is relatively mundane, but it s present.
The ski has a piezoelectric system that we find on several Head products, this echnology is designed to reduce vibrations. Is it due to the presence of piezo? Whatever the reason you do notice a softness to the pressure on the snow and very pleasant cushioning against vibrations. The Head Supershape e-Rally certainly stops vibrations going up your legs, and the tip holds fast too.
This ski allows you to make a few fore and aft balance mistakes. The tail is pretty wide(114mm) and doesn’t block you. The side cut is long, combined with a balanced flex giving this ski great fluidity. The Head Supershape e-Rally skis really easily in an upright stance, and pivots just as easily. The grip on our test pair was average because they weren’t correctly sharpened.
Going into the turn, the edges take hold fairly naturally, it isn’t immediate but if you give enough angle you get into the groove. The motion is good without being exceptional, and sensations are average. This ski is happy just plodding along. Extreme angles upset it, and it loses its grip.
Its clean on slightly bumpy terrain, but as soon as the slope becomes steep you need to be well positioned otherwise steerage becomes complicated and not fluid. You lose pressure and you find yourself on a skid.
The Head Supershape e-Rally ski enters the turn, either carving and then skidding, either skidding and then carving or all skid: so you have a choice, this is its versatile point.
It performs reasonably well, but if push it too hard it rapidly finds its limits. Two things were problematic for us: its lack of grip on very hardpack and the need to be very present just to have a regular carving turn, otherwise it lets go up front and at the tail. You can catch it again, but it just takes constant concentration and is not fluid.
The Head Supershape e-Rally is a ski that does the job but nothing more. It probably isn’t the product that we would aim for in the Head range, they have much better models.
