The Ledlenser HF 4R Core belongs to that very practical, lightweight, well-designed, and high-performing category of gear you toss into your backpack without a second thought for outdoor adventures.
The only real question mark regarding the Ledlenser HF 4R Core lies in its proprietary magnetic charging cable. While this technical solution is effective—the magnet helps guide the connection—you must have this specific cable on hand to recharge the headlamp. It’s not possible to charge it using a standard USB-C cable (on the lamp side), nor can you use replaceable batteries. Additionally, the HF 4R Core doesn’t come with a storage pouch that could have housed the dedicated cable. So, make sure to charge the lamp before heading out and be careful not to lose the cable. Charging via a computer is possible, but a USB-C wall charger is not included.
That aside, the Ledlenser HF 4R Core has everything we look for in a headlamp: ease of use, durability (IP68-rated), and more than enough brightness for camping, hiking, and everyday tasks. There’s no need to dig through complicated menus—the essentials are all there: multiple brightness modes, transport lock, red light mode, and a one-hour reserve of power when the battery runs low.
The HF 4R Core boasts a battery life of up to 35 hours and fully recharges in about 180 minutes.
Fairly lightweight (70 grams), it sits comfortably on the head, although the headband could be a bit wider to better distribute pressure. That said, it’s very easy to adjust.
A great headlamp for everyday use, camping, hiking, and other outdoor adventures. Simple, reliable, and with sufficient battery life.
