Nordica HF 110

The Nordica HF 110 is a rear entry boot, a little nostalgic air. Obviously we remember Salomon who at the time sold tons before the market for these type of boots collapsed and returned to the “serious” four-buckle boot. Atomic (Amer group) recently retried the concept without much success.

Rear entry has a massive advantage: it makes it so much easier to put on your boots! The downside: there is a lack of precision. But since the last experiences materials have evolved enormously, so we were very curious to try these Nordica HF 110.

This déjà vu feeling with this Nordica made us smile when we were putting it on: it is not a wrap boot, you slide your foot in from the back, and you close everything using a lever. Simple, superfast and practical. So far, nothing much is new compared to the historic rear entry models. However, what Nordica has largely changed is the lateral stiffness. The Nordica HF 110 gives both great comfort and foot volume with powerful left and right downforce transmissions on the skis’ edges.

The boot has a 110 flex, which is present. This value even seems a little higher than expected. We immediately benefit from it: if we come into angulation everything is fine, we can manage the pressure on the edge.

Another strong point, as soon as you slip your foot into the Nordica HF 110, you immediately notice how super comfortable it is and warm from the liner (they use cork and Primaloft®). We noticed that the heel is slightly pinched: as soon as you enter at an angle, your heel rises a little. It depends on your morphology but the HF would benefit from being more precisely fitted at the rear wrap level.

It’s a nice boot for walking and for skiing with an upright stance. Another surprising point is the instep adjustment with a single buckle aided by a ribbed tongue on the boot’s exterior. When you tighten the Nordica HF 110, you have the feeling that it’s not the shoe that is squeezed, but the tongue which spreads the pressure. It’s pretty amazing because with just one buckle Nordica manages to hold the forefoot very effectively.

Be careful, with a 101mm last, this boot isn’t as wide as it seems, because the entire front is well held. However, the rear of the foot moves a lot and you lose precision. The Nordica has a cheap side in construction terms, mainly at the buckle area. It lacks more classy elements because it is a boot costing over 400 euros.

Still, the Nordica HF 110 is an amazing boot because it can fit a lot of different people, it is also presented as a unisex model. It targets those who don’t want to sweat out a four-buckle boot, who still want some support, and who want to be able to walk easily with a Grip Walk sole. And above all, the HF is easily disengaged with a single movement: you lift the buckle and enjoy immediate comfort in restaurants, for example.

Important: if you undo the boots for walking, it doesn’t work, because they will just come off!

What should be changed on the Nordica HF 110: The rear hook adjustment lacks latitude. We quickly come to a stop when we are looking for precise adjustment. We would’ve liked a small tightening strap on the top of the tongue to have better adjustment. Lastly, the front buckle is not that easy to handle.

The Nordica HF 110 is aimed at skiers looking for a very light, warm boot that is very practical to use thanks to its revised rear entry. Its lateral stiffness and forefoot hold allow efficient ski steering. It lacks heel hold for the results to be fully satisfactory.
