We tested the Osprey Transporter 95 and gave it the best review because it received a Test4outside award. For the Marathon des Sables, we were able to use the brand-new Osprey Transporter 65, which has the same quality finishing, the same waterproofness (please note, this is a bag for the hold and not 100% waterproof at the zips and seams so not for canyoning). This Transporter 65 fits in an extremely practical pouch and so you can compact the Transporter 65 into a larger bag and most importantly, this pouch can be used to pack your belongings… inside the bag! It’s also very handy for storing the Osprey Transporter 65 at home when you’re not using it.
The Osprey Transporter 65 has carrying straps that can disappear when using as a “hold bag”, just slide them into the housing provided for this purpose. They are used for carrying the Transporter on your back when you run after your train, or when you walk to a bivouac… Even if the carrying is comfortable enough, it is still only a temporary solution and it obviously cannot be compared to a “real” backpack.
In the sandy and dusty Sahara, we appreciated the oversized zip that doesn’t get stuck or oxidize. The zip tabs are fitted with strong plastic cords and tips.
Four wide and very strong handles let you grab the Osprey Transporter 65 in any configuration. The small transparent pocket is for a business card so you don’t lose your luggage, is accessible from inside the exterior pocket: no risk of losing it.
Two inner straps allow you to compress your kit. The bag plus its pochette weigh 1280 grams.
We had scruples about swinging the Osprey Transporter 65 in the back of a pickup truck or on rocky ground because it’s beautifully made. After all, it’s designed for doing that, its polyester withstands the shocks, being knocked about and abrasion even if it marks slightly.
The Osprey Transporter 65 is a very good travel bag with a 65-liter volume that you can carry on your back without any problems. Solid, carefully constructed, kitted with solid zips, it protects your equipment effectively, in the hold or out in the field. We awarded it the First Award.
