Rossignol Escaper 88 Nano

FIRST

A pleasant surprise with the Rossignol Escaper 88 Nano. We started by skiing it on forgiving snow, and immediately felt its excellent skiability, a sensation that was confirmed on different types of snow and terrain.

This is a product designed for touring/freerando, with a great balance between reasonable weight (1350 grams) and versatility in all snow conditions.

Let’s address the one downside we noticed with the Rossignol Escaper 88 Nano: its tendency to oversteer. The ski enters the turn very (too?) quickly. To lengthen the turn, if you’re too far forward, it will continue to carve. So, you need to manage your pressure, especially when you want to stay on a direct line. A larger skier, if too far forward, may be caught off guard. Although the ski isn’t overly shaped in terms of sidecut, it’s the relatively soft flex in the tip that causes this oversteering.

The Rossignol Escaper 88 Nano excels in flotation, it’s very easy to initiate turns (as we’ve seen). All raised stances are managed effortlessly, and drifting is instant. It’s a ski that gives you a real sense of confidence because it grips the snow well. It also holds its own on hard snow, and as a bonus, you can even carve turns with a little finesse and technique. It has true skiability—it’s not a foam core ski with nothing inside in terms of construction.

The edge grip is excellent, providing reassurance on icy traverses and steep slopes. As speed increases, the front rocker can feel a bit vague, losing some precision.

The topsheet design allows you to grab the skis without them slipping. Reinforced tail. Small notch for skins.

A very good ski that offers a great skiability-to-weight ratio. Very enjoyable to ski, as it provides a true sense of serenity. Award First Test4outside.
