Despite its rather grand name, the Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 is not just aimed at competitors. It may have a high flex but on the snow this boot is not that extreme.
The 97mm fit is not as extreme as the brand’s other numerous racing boots,the Hero World Cup ZC for example, that has a 92mmmillimètres. So, the Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 and its 97mm gives room to move.
We were surprised by its relative comfort. We did sessions where we had them on all day and only noticed a slight pressure point on the forefoot and the shin envelopment and the rest of the foot remained firm but comfortable. The pressure distribution is good. You would need to see over time if the foam padding keeps its support and doesn’t deteriorate too quickly.
Our toes didn’t get too cold. The testers commented that these Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 could be a closer fit around the heel. Of course, afterwards it always depends on each person’s morphology. Rossignol have undoubtedly kept a bit of leeway for comfort reasons and to leave the route clear for the more pure-racing models.
We loved the buckles, which were judged as being “excellent”. They are both very powerful and easy to handle. The adjustment is easy to do and pressure is well distributed.
We also liked the 140-flex adjustment. Perfect for groomed slopes and even racing without only wanting sheer performance. The stopping point isn’t found quickly so your ankle is blocked you can play with the flex. The downward power is reduced slowly up to the stopping point where you benefit from the pressure. You gain in comfort what you lose in direct transmission.
We are still surprised by these boots’ relative comfort, the 140 flex is maybe overestimated a little. We tested the Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 in freezing conditions and the boot wasn’t ultra-rigid. We definitely noticed there wasn’t any deformation of the shell and lateral pressure was very rapid/efficient.
The mono-block sole doesn’t have any extra piece attached to directly transmit the skier’s energy; there’s no loss of energy. In this racing genre the semi-rigid sole is very slippery. You must be extremely careful on icy pavements not to finish up on the ground.
The Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 is relatively easy to put on if you don’t leave it in the back of your car overnight! The strap is efficient. We didn’t like the metal buckle much (doesn’t look nice) but it’s easy to handle (with cold fingers), and the surplus strap needs to be threaded through another buckle.
The Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 are very good boots suited to expert skiers, who are heavily built. Its “tameable” 140 flex is not limiting. Precise yet also comfortable, this Hero World Cup 140 is an intermediary product between racing and groomed piste performance.
