We’ve been testing Salomon’s Stance skis for several seasons now, unfortunately without being very enthusiastic… For this winter, we find a ski that’s a bit inert, not very fluid. A boat-like ski, somewhat lifeless, quite heavy on the feet. This Salomon Stance 90 doesn’t provide much sensation. We mainly reproach it for not being very fluid on the edge. Its behavior is acceptable on blue runs, on runs where it rolls strictly on its radius. It then becomes extremely difficult to vary its behavior even if you lean forward, pressing on the tongue.
As soon as the slope steepens, it becomes extremely complicated to place it correctly on the edge, unless you’re a big skier. You have to be an extremely finesse skier to manage pressures because as soon as you push the Salomon Stance 90 a bit, it loses grip. Very surprisingly, despite significant weight underfoot indicating an energized ski, its weak grip is unconvincing. Other skis do better without requiring the same level of technique and physical effort.
The Salomon Stance 90 requires attention to get the best out of it: you have to ski relaxed but mark your pressures, bring it into the tip, return to the heel… It works a bit better when you’re on the heel, on long turns.
All flat turns are easily obtained, the Salomon Stance 90 pivots well. Generally, there’s still a bit of inertia in the tip but it’s not too much of a problem. Medium to large radius turns can be done with sliding and carved pressures. Small radius turns with carved pressure are impossible (it’s not its program).
You can go fairly fast with this Salomon Stance 90, it’s quite stable, it absorbs shocks well.
A ski in line with its austere decoration, a bit heavy. But it’s well-made.
It lacks liveliness, enthusiasm. A stable ski but not very playful underfoot.
