Scott Sea 98

We discovered a ski that performs quite well across most areas of use. It’s a fairly stiff and powerful ski for the average skier, particularly in terms of torsional rigidity. It offers strong acceleration when pushed and always maintains a reserve of power underfoot.

Despite its potential power, the ski still pivots fairly easily at more moderate speeds. It also handles flat turns with ease during relaxed, skidded maneuvers. It’s compliant and manageable.

On hardpack snow, the slightly stiff section underfoot requires a bit more finesse and skier engagement. This is especially true for lighter skiers. On the other hand, heavier skiers will find it easier to work this part of the ski, making the Scott Sea 98 even more enjoyable, as it then becomes smoother and more fluid.

Lighter skiers may find it more difficult to vary turn shapes on the Scott Sea 98. In carved turns, adjusting the turn radius isn’t effortless. The ski tends to stick to its preferred arc. Again, a more powerful skier will be able to bend it more effectively and explore more varied terrain, including off-piste.

In spring conditions and transformed snow, the Scott Sea 98 handles tricky snow very well thanks to its responsive shovel — it’s a real pleasure. It enables high-speed skiing both on and off piste. A reliable ski, solid underfoot.

On ice, the Scott Sea 98 offers decent edge grip, though we’ve seen skis with more bite. This may be due to its slightly toned-down smoothness. Despite the power it offers, it could be a bit more aggressive in hard, icy conditions.

The shovel vibrates a little, but this doesn’t negatively affect the ski’s performance. The topsheet is very durable. There’s no edge line around the shovel, and the raised tail features a rubber protector. Retail price is on the lower side.
