This Scott Supertrac 3 clearly has a powerful grip in muddy terrain and a certain rusticity due to its materials.
Its comfort is edgy, and we liked its close-fitting foot envelopment, especially at the forefoot. But, depending on the width of your forefoot, the Scott Supertrac 3 may or may not be suitable for you. We also liked the high level of foot protection. The Ripstop seems indestructible. It is pretty “stiff” but it’s not a problem. We just wonder how long it will hold where you bend by the big toe, because the fold is pronounced. At any rate, after all the miles we did it survived our tests.
This Scott Supertrac 3’s cushioning is limited, most of the filtration is done by the chunky lugs. It is not a very springy shoe, due to its weight (and overall with this type of shoe) and its sole is oriented towards stability and a certain rigidity rather than towards spring.
The sole doesn’t clog with mud, it is reassuring in these conditions but a little less grippy on wet stone slabs. The shoe makes a dull sound on hard ground, especially on the road. It has good torsional rigidity for an 8mm drop.
The front is really well protected with a semi-rigid stone guard. The tongue is a bit stiff to start with and loosens up after a few runs.
The heel comfort is pleasant and heel hold is good.
The Scott Supertrac 3 has good foot protection in rough terrain. Grippy and tough, the cushioning is less obvious. Good for mountain runners and ideal for fast-hiking.
