The Sun Valley Karoo sleeveless jacket is padded, giving a down jacket effect, without being bulky or cumbersome.
It can be worn as an outer jacket with its waterproof properties or as a mid-layer with its ability to be compressed. Water indeed runs off the fabric.
It is relatively lightweight and very warm. The warmth is immediate.
The Karoo jacket from Sun Valley closes with a central zip featuring a plastic zipper with a metal-like gold finish. The effect is very classy while staying light. The zip movement is fairly smooth but somewhat noisy. The zip is protected by a fabric strip on the inside, extending to the start of the collar to prevent it from catching on base layers and to ensure thermal and waterproof sealing.
This jacket features an effective hydrophobic membrane, except on the shoulders. The shoulders are covered with a ribbed jersey fabric. While this adds aesthetic appeal, it’s not very technical, as under rain, the fabric soaks up water immediately, becomes heavy, and loses its thermal insulation effect.
The Karoo jacket from Sun Valley has a high collar and a large hood, both lined with very soft fleece, which adds even more comfort and warmth.
When the zip is fully closed and the hood is not worn, the collar forms a high fold that perfectly protects the neck. When the hood is on, the head and face are well protected while maintaining a large opening. However, in bad weather, it can be gathered or tightened with drawstrings, reducing the exposure to a small window. There’s also a tightening loop at the back of the head (a plastic loop that doesn’t add weight to the hood) to adjust the visor effect. The hood is fixed.
The Karoo jacket from Sun Valley has two relatively large side zippered pockets, but they are not very deep, so we need to bend our fingers to fully warm our hands.
Another inner pocket, on the right, is secured with Velcro.
The inside of the Karoo jacket from Sun Valley features a silky fabric with a soft and warm feel, immediately redistributing body heat. However, it is fragile.
Two drawstrings allow the jacket to be tightened at the hips to improve thermal sealing.
A hanging loop at the neck area allows the jacket to be hung on a hook without deforming the hood.
The Sun Valley logo is elegantly embroidered at the heart level, adding a stylish touch.
The jacket fits true to size and comes in two colors: Caviar and Light Beige.
This jacket is comfortable, stylish, and technical. It is waterproof yet breathable. It dries very quickly. A beautiful product, an interesting mix of elegance and insulation.
