UNDER ARMOUR Flow Velociti Wind

We couldn’t wait to wear these stunning Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind. With their classy lines, superb materials, particularly the technical mesh, (called Warp by Under Armor) make these a racy product that you want to both run and surpass yourself with.

This road shoe is designed for runners with a long stride. However, average runners who want to embark on faster sessions, on proprioception and forefoot placement will be fulfilled with this Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind. Because this shoe is both quite direct on the ground but sufficiently cushioned, so you aren’t shaken about too much if the support deteriorates. But overall, don’t expect a lot of cushioning. For short distances, an aerial runner can go fast while having fun with this lightweight shoe. We weighed the Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind at 228 grams in size 42.5.

We weighed the Under Armour Flow Velociti Wind at 228g size 42.5. To give you an idea, the Asics Metaracer Tokyo (that has a carbon plate) is 206g, the Salomon S/Lab Phantasm 195g, the Hoka One One Rocket X (also with a carbon plate) 210g. So, the Under Armour is pretty light.

The Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind can be run with a forefoot, and midfoot attack. Heel strike it becomes (much) less convincing even if it provides minimum cushioning: but the rebound, the foot strike precision is not as “qualitative” as running forefoot. There is a slight roll. When you set off and keep running with a forefoot strike you get real acceleration. Remember that this Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind has an 8mm drop, the front tilt is effective. However, we were surprised by this 8mm drop, the sensations we had it felt lower.

In terms of speed, the Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind seems a little less “energized”, than some racing shoes. But a technical and lightweight runner can take advantage of it.

It is also a very comfortable shoe, especially at the rear where the foam padding and foot envelopment around the ankle is well designed. The heel hold is both firm and effective.

We liked the possibility of kitting the Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind with two different colored laces. The tongue is flexible, comfortable and does not move around when running.

We had already tested a pair of Under Armor that connects to the Mapmyrun app, on the UA Hovr Machina (https://www.test4outside.com/produit/under-armour-ua-hovr-machina/). The Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind is also connected via a Bluetooth chip in the outer sole. Once the application is loaded onto the smartphone, the connection is easy and very fast: you put the shoe flat and tap it once on the ground to activate the chip. You can then access your session’s recording on your smartphone. People who buy a Flow Velociti Wind are probably already kitted with a connected watch that gives them pplenty of data at the end of the session.

What we liked (and yet, we were not really the customers targeted) was the live coaching with Mapmyrun, in your headphones (initially for our music) during the session: technical advice and information on distance, pace, etc. It’s quite impressive. We found that the analysis of the foot angle on the ground was particularly interesting. It doesn’t replace a real coach, but it is motivating. What about recycling the Bluetooth system included in the shoe?

The Under Armor Flow Velociti Wind is a technically precise road shoe that you must run just right. Not much cushioning, it clearly prefers a forefoot strike Despite its great lightness, it does remain comfortable with a very pleasant stride. Connected via a Bluetooth system, it enbables you to analyze your stride and benefit from some live advice via the application.
