We were able to test two other shoes from the Under Armour range: the Under Armour Flow Velociti Wind and the Under Armour Hovr Machina. With the new Under Armour Hovr Mega 2 Clone (and its super sci-fi movie name) the designers are addressing another audience and another programme. This shoe is for road runners who want an ultra-cushioned and comfortable shoe, with slight versatility to be able to run off road on non-technical paths.
The first thing that jumps out at you with the Under Armour Hovr Mega 2 Clone is how high its heel is. The drop is 8 mm, 31 at the heel and 23 at the front. You have a real impression of anticipation, leaning forward to run. The other characteristic is the upper zone which is kitted with a 3D stretch material. This gives a flexible foothold but does mean it’s very warm. Running at 15°C the Under Armour Hovr Mega 2 Clone starts getting really hot after only 30-minutes running, something to really take into account when purchasing. It also sizes very small, at least one size smaller. The flexible structure compensates a little, but you must choose your size carefully. Not very wide in the forefoot.
One of the main qualities of this Under Armour Hovr Mega 2 Clone is its comfort; just like comfy slippers with very thick foam padding and overall softness.
Lastly, you discover very generous cushioning, both under the forefoot (which is rare) and under the heel. If you are a forefoot runner you won’t use the cushioning 100%. Once you strike with the heel, filtration is extremely high and favorable for runners on hard surfaces or looking for recovery comfort. It is a shoe designed for pleasure rather than performance and for excursions where you just want to chill and stride out.
Its grip is fine on the road but obviously a little limited if you go off road. Considering its height and cushioning it does wobble a bit on uneven terrain.
The shoe is connected to the MapMyRun app. Pairing is easy and your data is displayed on your smartphone. During exercise a voice also provides information and (basic) advice. We compared the data from this app with others such as the Suunto watch linked to a heartrate monitor. If the distances and speed are pretty similar, calorie output is systematically overestimated by the app with a ratio that is almost doubled.

The Under Armour Hovr Mega 2 Clone is a good shoe to start running with and enjoy the pleasure in great comfort. Plenty of cushioning, a warm shoe, and connected for the geek in you.
