We were blown away by the sudden arrival of the X-Bionic X00/C — a trail shoe crafted with extreme attention to detail, offering bold design choices and innovative technical features. It even came packaged with a matching pair of branded socks.
The new X-Bionic Terraskin X01 follows a similar formula. It shares the same aggressive, standout look and also includes a pair of X-Bionic socks in the box. However, unlike the X00/C, the X01 does not feature a carbon plate. It comes in at €250 (versus €300 for the X00/C).
On the trails, the X01 delivers a ride that feels very close to its older sibling. Ground contact is firm, precise, and highly responsive. Runners with a refined technique — particularly midfoot or, better yet, forefoot strikers — will appreciate the performance, especially on shorter distances. For others who rely more on heel cushioning, the shoe lacks softness under the heel and metatarsals. For longer runs, it could use more energy return and comfort. That said, stability is excellent.
On technical terrain, the X-Bionic Terraskin X01 offers impressive grip — strong and confidence-inspiring. The foot is also well protected from frontal impacts thanks to a robust, armor-like toe bumper. Foot lockdown is solid, with laces that hold the fit nicely.
Around the ankle, a soft, elastic knit collar gently wraps the area, helping to keep out debris.
Build quality is top-notch, and everything about the shoe suggests long-term durability. The included X-Bionic sock matches the shoe’s design and color scheme, and is also made to a high standard.
In summary, this is a trail shoe with powerful grip, striking looks, and a very direct, stable ride. While it excels on short, technical terrain, it lacks cushioning for long-distance comfort.
