We were able to test these magnificent Völkl Deacon V.Werks in size 177 cm. These skis stand out in more ways than one. The way the fibers have been worked, the use of noble materials, notably carbon. There is also titanium and fiberglass, the transparent finish means that you can see all the layers’ richness. They are truly magnificent skis, really superb, with the bindings on a rail integrated into the ski. The shapes are fluid, well-balanced, a delight for the eye. The carbon on all the levels is complemented with a metal plate. These are a real gem that has a tip shape to die for.
The base structure was qualified as incredible and producing an awesome glide. The tail has attention to detail with its integrated pre-shaped rubber insert that ensures the continuity of the base. There’s no doubt, we are in the presence of a supremely beautiful, top-of-the-range product. Beauty has a price: 1200 euros. Not the sort of skis you would leave lying around on the terrace of a mountain restaurant.

On snow we discover skis that are light underfoot, and produce a characteristic little noise, as if they were hollow at the front. The second impression is their extreme ease: they pivot and plane so easily, despite their length (the one we tested). The Völkl Deacon V.Werks handle like a dream. They’re light underfoot and there’s no inertia in the tips. From the first turns you feel that they are lively and playful skis. The tips tap a little, you do wonder what they will be like at high speed. Before putting the metal to the pedal, we test their smudging and skidding ability. The skid/smudge is obtained without any problems, they’re like snowblades.
When traversing on hard snow, the tip reacts a little, propeller-like, but it must be said that the Völkl Deacon V.Werks are very shaped at the front. They have 132 millimeters at the tip, so it’s not surprising. The torsional stiffness isn’t the toughest we’ve seen.
They accelerate, you find the edge very easily, they have a smooth turn exit and the tip is flat. You can vary the radius, large and medium but for small radiuses, it’s not quite there. It’s really easy to vary the radius, you just lean in and have fun (no over or under turning problems). Super easy to get the hang of it.
After riding for a while it’s still surprising how light they feel underfoot. The more they accelerate the more you think they aren’t going to grip. You reach their limits you mustn’t go too hard, especially on loading the tips. The Völkl Deacon V.Werks allows quite extensive angulation. Of course, if you embark on extreme curves on hard snow, you will find your limits, but for a skier who rides at an acceptable speed (a good advanced skier), they will suit him/her perfectly. It’s a very successful mix of ease and performance, all in an ultra-light package.
These are really fun skis: they are so light, and they respond instantly. We really appreciated their lively and rather playful side; the graphics didn’t suggest this kind of character. The Völkl Deacon V.Werks are beautiful to look at but their look gives off a little austere side but on the snow they have peps. This energy is really nice. It’s all well balanced, the flex is extremely consistent between the front and rear, its torsional rigidity is present despite its lightness. Its tips cause it to twist a bit but nothing too annoying even if, on a very steep and very frozen slope, you will find its limits. It is also a very easy to carry the skis (light weight + their shape).
Off-piste, when the conditions aren’t extreme, they plane well, they pivot quickly and save energy in your legs thanks to their agile nature and light weight. In choppy snow or end of season snow, on the edge of the piste they were considered to be “ultra-pleasant”.
You would need to check the longevity of the ski edges that the edge knocks won’t damage the fiber too much.
The Völkl Deacon V.Werks are magnificent skis that we would love to own. In addition to being a tasteful object, they are high performance all mountain skis. They have a sublime touch on the snow. Of course, given their price, these skis aren’t a sensible purchase but a purchase that comes from desire and passion. They won the Test4outside First award hands down.

the v werks are awesome on ice, no slippage at all , better than the decon 84 which did well, and light years ahead of the brahma 88 which was downright dangerous on ice. the v werks carves wonderfully for me and well worth the extra bucks.
